The Story Between the Rings

"Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the LORD." Psalms 102:18

Oakview Baptist Church is deeply rooted in the desire to see those who are far from God, draw near to Christ. Oakview began with 26 people in a living room in 1985. It quickly became a mission partner of the First Baptist Church of Clewiston, Florida where a Gospel partnership launched. They believed that God had a desire to see His Kingdom come in Okeechobee and around the world.

Our small church grew through the years and purchased our first property in 1987. The church continued to grow over the next decade and the decision to re-locate was finalized in August of 1999. In 2001, our church celebrated and marched 2 miles South down the road to our current property on 32nd Street as our new campus was finalized. In October of 2004, Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne caused major structural damage to our new sanctuary and we began holding worship services at the Church of the Nazarene. It was nearly 2 years before the reconstruction was complete and our church was able to return to our campus for worship.

The story of Oakview is a lot like the rings of an oak tree. Every year, trees form new growth rings (also called tree rings). Not only do these tree rings tell the age of a tree, but they also tell the conditions during the life of a tree. Oakview has experienced seasons harvest and plenty; seasons of drought and dispair. Oaks are hardy trees with a broad system of roots anchoring them securely so they can withstand many seasons of hardship and storm. Oakview Church has proven that we will remain rooted in the Word of God and endure together no matter the season.

"They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor.”  Isaiah 61:3

The story of Oakview Church is a church planted by the Lord for the display of His splendor! We stand on the shoulders and faith of those who have come before us. We will honor the past, but focus towards the goal of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. The oak rings remind us of the generations past, that have rooted our church in the Gospel of Christ. The oak rings also press us towards our mission of seeing future generations Follow Jesus and Flourish for the glory of God!

Our desire is to continue to be faithful with what God has entrusted to us and embrace the mighty truth of Scripture! May we delight in the Lord and see His Kingdom come!

"He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers." Psalm 1:3
